Helena Frielingsdorf

Helena Frielingsdorf is currently combining a residency in psychiatry in Norrköping with research in a collaboration with Linköping University and the Karolinska Institute. She is a lecturer on Global Health at Linköping University.

Helena is a medical doctor with a PhD in neurobiogy from Lund University. In 2008 she joined Médecins Sans Frontières, and has done four field missions, most recently as medical team leader in Bossangoa, Central African Republic.  During her work with Médecins Sans Frontières in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar and Central African Republic she was closely involved in the implementation of care for survivors of sexual and gender based violence and psychiatric care. In 2009-2011 she did a postdoctoral fellowship on the mechanisms of posttraumatic stress at Cornell University in New York and she attended the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma in 2013-14.

Her current research interests include exploring risk and resilience factors, and improved treatment strategies for posttraumatic stress disorder and substance use, as well as integrating psychiatric services in humanitarian emergencies.
